Date : About October of 1517
Place: Wittenberg, Germany
Founder: Martin Luther (1483 - 1546) was a German priest and scholar whose questioning of certain church practices led to the Protestant Reformation. He is one of the pivotal figures of Western civilization, as well as of Christianity.
Cause: Luther saw contradictions between the Bible and current church practice as well as corruption and abuses within the (Catholic) church, and initially hoped for reform. When that proved impossible, he continued to spread his teachings despite excommunication and threats to his life.
B. Presence
World: Are nearly 70 million Lutherans worldwide.
Peru: About 1320 Lutherans. In Peru the important churches are Belén, Cristo Rey, Filadelfia, and Luz Divina.

D. Belief

Holy Baptism.
Lord's Supper.
Trinity of God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit).
Belief in Christ's redemptive death.
Jesus is both God and man.
All men have the possiblity of salvation.
Baptism is normatively necessary for salvation.
· Similar
Lutherans have only two sacraments, Baptism and Holy Communion, while Catholics have 7.
Catholics believe in both, Scripture and Tradition, however Lutherans only belief in Scripture.
Lutherans can confess with a priest, but they confess sins directly to God through prayer. They have like two options.
· Different
Lutherans believe that a person is saved by God's grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.
Lutherans believe that Christ's body and blood are truly present in the Lord's Supper, but they do not believe, with Catholics, that the bread and wine, are permanently "changed into" Christ's body and blood.
Lutherans don’t belief in the Purgatory.
They don’t pray to saints.
Lutherans don’t believe that the papacy has any divine authority, or that Christians need to submit to the Pope's authority to be "true" members of the visible Church.
Lutherans believe that Scripture alone has authority to determine doctrine.
